Uncertainty Over Personalisation Options Hampering Transformation

Social worker fears uncertainty and confusion surrounding the personalisation agenda could bring the whole process to a halt.

April 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Personalisation advocate Karen Garner has warned that local authorities’ uncertainty over the direction that the personal budgets roll-out will take could bring the whole process grinding to a halt.

Ms Garner, founder of Positive Living Ltd and BeMyCareBroker.com, is concerned that confusion surrounding the personalisation agenda is hampering local authorities’ ability to select and implement solutions now.

“The latest Livability results have highlighted the worrying amount of confusion within local authorities, surrounding the implementation of the personalisation agenda,” she explained.

“From our experiences of talking to local authorities, many are uncertain about what type of solution is required and which systems are available.  They are also unsure of whether the systems currently on the market have the scope and flexibility to adapt to their needs post 2011.

“There are concerns that embracing one particular system now could be a costly mistake if it is found not to be fit for purpose in the future, especially as swingeing local authority are budget cuts on the agenda, which could preclude system adaptations later on.

“If local authorities remain unsure of what is required and the solutions available, we risk the whole process grinding to a halt and leaving those who need care and support totally in the dark about how to get the help that they need.”
