Penned by a few of his first clients as the "Black Jackson Pollock", Greg Pitts is exhibiting several of his earlier works at the GAB Gallery for the month of April.
While his journey into the visual arts began over 25 years ago as a photographer when he purchased his first camera, his most recent exhibits have also included his phenomenal abstract work.
Two of the pieces on exhibit at the gallery are recycled art pieces. Mr Pitts enjoys finding unwanted and unused objects and incorporating them into his abstract art. “The Levi Tribe” -a mixed media work- is made with a collection of denim jeans, shirts and other apparel- all from the Levi Strauss company. One recycled artwork includes the use of the frame of a Sony HD television as the actual frame for the artwork that is acrylic on canvas and was inspired by the annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.
When asked why his exhibit was exciting for him, Mr Pitts replied,
"Other than the fact that I am being given a chance to showcase my art, this exhibit is very special to me because I am exhibiting some of my earlier work. Particularly, the first piece I did that earned me the moniker 'The Black Jackson Pollock.' I titled it "Lost in Traffic". I purchased the paper from Mission Gifts when they were located on 2nd Avenue in Ft. Lauderdale. The paper is organic, hand made and acid-free, made by women and children in the Philippines who were victims of human traffiking. I donate a portion of all proceeds of art that have painted on that paper back to Mission Gifts. They do a wonderful work throughout the world"
Mr. Pitts has been a philanthropist with his artwork and photography, donating to several charitable organizations throughout the region and nationally.

The open house for this exhibit is on the 2nd Saturday, April 10th during the districts monthly Artwalk and is from 7pm - 11pm.
GAB Gallery is located at 105 N.W. 23rd Street, Miami, FL. in the Wynwood Art District
