Inclusion at iBookstore for iPad benefits independent author

Tracy Falbe, author of The Rys Chronicles fantasy series, has placed her four-part epic in the iBookstore for Apple's iPad by using the distribution services of Smashwords.

Falbe has been selling her fantasy novels from her website www.braveluck.com since 2005. When she first started selling her fiction directly to readers, there were no viable ebook retailers that would include authors who produced their own work. Now independent writers are gaining greater access to retail ebook marketplaces as business leaders realize there is little cost associated with including all interested parties in ebook catalogs.

"For years I could never throw my hat in the ring because a high fence was blocking the ring," Falbe said. "If you didn't have a publisher, you need not apply. Now, everything is changing in a hurry."

Falbe specifically credits being listed in the iBookstore for iPad on the day of the iPad's launch with the ebook publishing and distribution company Smashwords. This company has been successfully reaching out to mainstream ebook retailers like Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Sony, Amazon, and now Apple.  The new approach provided by Smashwords allows the reading public to decide what is desirable instead of the old restrictive publishing model ruled by narrow market calculations and the opinions of a tiny few. The low costs of digital book distribution have allowed this business model to emerge.  Quite literally any writer can place himself or herself into the marketplace and be judged by a potential audience. Because Falbe has been meeting with praise from readers for five years and being paid for her work, she definitely feels worthy of presentation to the iPad users.

Generous sampling is the key to finding new readers in a competitive marketplace with hundreds of thousands of titles. Falbe provides the first novel of her fantasy series Union of Renegades: The Rys Chronicles Book I free in its entirety at the iBookstore as well as at other ebook sources.

"As a writer who loves her stories and sincerely works to make them good enough for the public, all I've ever wanted is a chance to be included at popular retail sites," Falbe said.
