Try keeping up with this artist, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and mom! Cristi Benavides is not only emerging as one of Denver's newest contemporary artists, but she says she's "having fun doing it!" To say that Cristi approaches her art career from a different angle, would be putting it mildly. After graduating from the Art Institute of Colorado, Cristi spent the next 12 years learning the ropes. "Becoming an artist was never my idea," she says. But after seeing how art could connect her with people and charitable causes, it seemed like a good fit. Cristi supports the Power of One program that most recently traveled to Thailand with 45 other mentors and teens from America and Thailand that, for some, was the first time away from home or on an airplane. One of the main team projects on this trip was to paint a 120 ft long mural at Ban Hin Turn Elementary School. The mural was spectacular and left an inspirational message written in Thai. The mural reads, "What Is Your Dream?" You can see photos and get more info on the Power of One program for teens at www.bluestarofhope.org, a Colorado based charity foundation focusing on our youth and global community.
"This might sound odd, but sometimes O.C.D. (obsessive compulsive disorder) really comes in handy," says Cristi. "I find it hard to sit still most times because I get so excited about getting into the art publishing world now, which will free up more of my time – so I can volunteer more ..and,”
