For over six years, loyal customers have been repeatedly sending requests to Old California Lantern Company for mailbox designs that would match their fine lighting fixtures. Old California Lantern Company has finally answered these calls and released a new line of beautifully crafted mailboxes.
The most unique feature of the mailboxes is the optional light, which operates using a 1.5w LED light that rests inside the mailbox behind a glass insert, illuminating the faceplate design on the front of the mailbox. The illuminating lights mirror the same elegant style Old California Lantern Company uses to design their light fixtures.
Old California Lantern Company handcrafts each mailbox from solid brass. Customers then have full capacity to customize the look of their mailboxes. They can choose from horizontal or vertical designs, finishes ranging from “Architecture Bronze” to “Old Brass”, whether or not to include a magazine rack, and even choose different faceplates, such as an owl, a pinecone, an acorn or the always-popular dragonfly. Many customers simply choose an outline of their house number. The permutations for their mailboxes are endless and there are designs that will cater to almost everyone, not just Craftsman aficionados.
Tom Richard, the president of Old California Lantern Company, was inspired to create these mailboxes by an antique piece he bought years ago. The antique mailbox, dated 1927, doubles as a light fixture and was all the inspiration Richard needed for the LED device used in his modern adaptation.
“I saw it and I had to have it,” Richard says, “It’s been in my office for years, and then one day a colleague suggested we model our mailboxes on it. We updated the antique mailbox’s simple but ingenious lighting design and applied it to ours.”
Basic pricing for one mailbox begins at $175.00 and can change depending on different customization preferences. For more information, visit Old California Lantern Company’s website at www.oldcalifornia.com or tour their factory showroom in Orange, California.
