Scott Schaake, president of USA LED Lighting Solutions in Southbury, Connecticut (www.usaledsolutions.com), announced that he completed installation of the all-LED lighting system for the newly-constructed Prime Publishers, Inc. building in Southbury. Spotlighted at the March 17 ribbon cutting ceremony of the new building by Prime Publishers’ CEO, Rudy Mazurosky, Schaake educated ceremony attendees on the fact that this is the first all-LED commercial building in the State of Connecticut.

“This new indoor LED--light emitting diode--lighting system provides a significant energy savings for Prime Publishers from their previous building in Woodbury,” stated Schaake. A leading regional weekly newspaper publisher, Prime Publishers moved into their eco-friendly new corporate headquarters at 55 Heritage Road in Southbury, Connecticut on March 8, 2010.

“LED is definitely the wave of the future for lighting technology,” commented Prime Publisher’s CEO Mazurosky. “Our new 11,000 square foot headquarters is completely outfitted with USA LED lighting that uses 80 percent less wattage than incandescent and 40 percent less than fluorescent. This lighting includes T8 LED tube lights, PAR38 LED recessed lights, and G70 LED lights. All of which is providing us with an exceptional 60% total savings in energy from what we used in our previous building. It’s truly a fabulous saver of energy.”

USA LED Lighting Solutions president Schaake explained, “Office buildings like the newly-constructed Prime Publishers’ building are prime candidates to save 50% of lighting energy costs.” He pointed out that the new USA LED lighting can also immediately reduce energy consumption in an existing building. “Plus, it offers considerable savings in energy bills, and it’s a perfect ‘green solution’ for our environment.” LED Lights consume 80 to 90% less energy when compared to the equivalent incandescent light bulb. It is predicted that with the average life span of a USA LED light approximately 15 years, incandescent bulbs will soon be obsolete.

“The Energy Independence Act of 2007,” explained Schaake, “requires that 100w incandescent bulbs be 28% more efficient by 2012. Today’s LED lights are drastically more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. A typical 60W incandescent light bulb has a useful life of 1,000 hours and can be replaced today by a 12W LED bulb with a life expectancy of 50,000 hours.”

Schaake stated that, “What’s even more remarkable than the fact that use of LED lights reduces energy costs as much as 80% is that LED bulbs require no care or maintenance for over 10 years, operating at 12 hours a day. Plus, LED lights do not contain lead, mercury or other harmful heavy metals, which eliminates disposal and health concerns. While the upfront purchase of LED light bulbs is more expensive than common incandescent bulbs, the average payback is 1 to 2 years. A company can save both money and time with reduced electrical consumption and time not wasted on replacing existing bulbs.”

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

Statistics reveal that 22% of all electrical consumption in the United States is used on lighting. Additional studies show that a substantial amount of energy can be saved by converting to LED lights. “Since the primary source of energy in the USA is the burning of fossil fuel which generates CO2,” explained Schaake, “the environment will benefit from a reduction in the amount of CO2 emitted for every kilowatt hour (Kw-hr) of energy saved.

Every megawatt hour (Mw-hr) of electricity saved will reduce CO2 emissions by 1 ton. Excessive CO2 emissions are a key reason for the partial destruction of the earth's ozone layer and onset of global warming. Landfills will also benefit from the implementation of LED lighting due to the long useful life of LED lights. One LED light can last as long as 50 conventional incandescent light bulbs. This all equates to a savings of waste.”

Launched in August 2009  USA LED Lighting Solutions owned by Scott Schaake is a division of Tiger Technologies, LLC, a provider of green and energy efficient products to consumers, businesses and affinity groups. In January 2010 Schaake replaced all the 100 watt metal halide bulbs in the lamp posts on Main Street in Southbury, Connecticut with 23 watt energy efficient induction bulbs.
