After graduating from Shenzhen University as a computer major in 1993, Mr. Ma worked at a number of small and medium sized companies. Born in Chaozhou, Mr. Ma has a strong sense of entrepreneurship in business. "I wanted to establish my own business, and clearly thought about what to do, but the idea of a risky venture was not appealing to me, I'm fascinated with creating a good product and business model. I believed I could find value in paging and network resources. "Mr. Ma said.
By chance, Mr. Ma had contact with ICQ, a trendy global instant messaging program. Mr. Ma felt instant messaging would have a market in China, because there was no Chinese version of ICQ.
Mr. Ma modeled ICQ and developed a Chinese version and called it QQ. In November 1998, 27-year-old Mr. Ma founded the Shenzhen Tencent Computer System Co., Ltd. Since then, the vast QQ empire grows…and grows.
