2010 Spirits Of Peace Awards Honors Those Dedicated To Stop Gang Violence

April 6, 2010 - PRLog -- On Wednesday, April 14, 2010, hundreds of Southern California’s most influential business, corporate, sports & entertainment, elected-officials and community leaders will come together to Stop the Violence in our communities through a Red Carpet Awards/Dinner/Silent Auction/Concert fundraiser produced by the Stop the Violence Increase the Peace Foundation.  

The Stop the Violence Increase the Peace Foundation is a 501 (c) non-profit community prevention and intervention organization that works to eliminate all forms of violence in Southern California communities.  Programs offered include gang prevention and intervention, after-school programs, safe-passage programs, services for women and children victims of domestic violence and the surviving families of homicide.

Now in its 8th year, this extravagant fundraiser will be held at the prestigious Annenberg Community Beach House, 415 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, CA 90403.  RED CARPET arrivals begin at 5:30pm and general entrance at 6:00pm.  Sure to electrify all attendees is a live private concert from jazz eccentric Karen Briggs.  

The Spirit of Peace Awards program will honor extraordinary individuals and organizations that have been dedicated to the work of ending the cycle of violence in under-served communities, as well as provide support for a regional collaboration of 120 agencies that provide prevention and intervention services to women and children living in poverty.

Proceeds from Spirit of Peace Awards programs over the years, have provided more than $10 million dollars in support for after-school programs, gang prevention and intervention, safe-passage programs, services for women and children victims of domestic violence and the surviving families of homicide.  The 2010 Spirits of Peace Awards will not only give recognition to the Colonels leading the battles in the streets, but to raise awareness of various programs and also funds that will aide in sustaining many organizations.

Recently awarded $242,000 from Mr. Ramos of the San Manuel Band of Indians, the Inland Empire Violence Prevention Coalition (a collaborate partner) has already begun the ADOPT-A-SCHOOL Program with 92.3 The Pulse of the Community.  This program targets students to boost academic and school-based participation.   Through such collaborations goals will be achieved.

Numerous individuals, organizations, political and government officials have dedicated their efforts to helping youngsters, families and many communities make a significant mark to the strategy to reduce gang and drug related activities that have plagued enriched lifestyles.   Already confirmed to attend include Florence LaRue of the 5th Dimensions, Jon B., R&B/Soul/Hip Hop Artist, Master P., Hip Hop Artist, award-winning vocalist and Broadway actress Eloise Laws,, actor “All My Children” Obba Babutunde, California State 51st Assemblymember Steve Bradford, California State 48th Assemblymember Mike Davis,  Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa,  Los Angeles Council Member District 13 Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles Council Member District  15 Janice Hahn, Los Angeles County, Second District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, and Terrence Stone of Young Visionaries to name a few.
