Karalina's Supports the Mother's and More of Southern Saratoga Power of a Purse

April 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Karalina's, located in Clifton Park Center in Southern Saratoga County, is supporting this very worthwhile campaign to help mothers in poverty by collecting purses and by raffling off a new Brighton handbag.

In the U.S., having a child, or being a mother, is the greatest predictor that a woman will end up in poverty. In our community thousands of women are facing this harsh reality right now. These women and their children need our help in having a safe place to live and the chance to rebuild their lives.

To show these struggling women that the community cares, Mother's & More of Southern Saratoga started a campaign in 2009 to collect new and gently used purses to give to women in economic need. This helped to give these women hope, and the knowledge that the community does care about them and their struggles.

This year the organization is again collecting purses, but wants to do even more to give these women an unforgettable Mother's Day celebration. On May 2nd, Mothers & More will be giving these women in need not only the purses that are collected, but a luncheon party at the Troy YWCA to honor all mothers, regardless of their economic situation.

To help Mothers & More of Southern Saratoga, Karalina’s will again be collecting purses at its location in Clifton Park Center. In addition, Karalina’s will be raffling a new straw Brighton Abby handbag, valued at $205, for a $1 donation per ticket. The drawing will end on April 30, 2010.

As an additional incentive, bring in a used handbag to donate at Karalina’s and you can either have $10 off the purchase of any new non-Brighton handbag, or get 5 free raffle tickets toward the Brighton Abby handbag.

Karalina’s hopes you will support Mothers & More of Southern Saratoga for this special Mother’s Day campaign for mothers in our community that are facing economic hardship. Some facts to consider:

• More than 1 in 8 women (15 million) in the U.S. lives in poverty.
• Over 7.5 million children living in poverty in the U.S. are being raised in single parent women headed households.
• The poverty rate for women-headed families is 37% which is more than double that of male-headed families, and nearly 5 times the poverty rate of married families.
