April 4, 2010 - PRLog -- ATLANTA, GEORGIA   The National Black Information Technology Leadership Organization, or NBITLO, is a national organization created especially for African Americans (although membership is open to anyone) who is interested in pursuing a professional technology leadership career, executive technology leadership position or currently holds such position.  The association provides those with information technology leadership aspirations with the necessary information and support that may not be currently available to them but is important for success. The founding advisor of NBITLO, Andrew West saw a great need for such a positive, proactive networking and supportive professional networking organization and called a number of people from all over the country with an interest information technology leadership and together they brought this vision to life. West is a visionary passionate about creating a model for Information Technology Leadership, and sharing it through the vision of NBITLO.

African Americans are currently underrepresented in Information Technology Leadership positions making up roughly 7% of all technology leaders in America’s workforce.  Just as interesting, a very large percentage of all African Americans who apply for technology leadership positions are not poised to compete in today’s competitive market. NBITLO intends to do its part to change those negative statistics by supporting its members and equipping them with the necessary technology leadership skills, resources, and strategic technology visioning to help them in the fiercely competitive world of information technology leadership as well as providing access to human and informational resources to help them succeed and grow when they get there.

The group has a major nationwide membership recruitment drive underway. Membership to the organization is absolutely free and is open to anyone with an interest in information technology leadership - working professionals, undergraduates, graduate students, as well as high school students.  The organization functions on a national level and is primarily web based
where most communication is through e-mail, list serve, chats and discussion lists.

Members will be provided with the opportunity to learn more about facing the challenges associated with applying to information technology leadership positions and the highly demanding and competitive corporate technology climate once they secure a position.  Through modern technology, members can engage in information-sharing, participate in book discussions, and develop networking relationships with others with similar goals that can support them through what can be a challenging process.  All members will not only have the unique opportunity to network, and establish and maintain relationships with fellow information technology leadership aspirants, but also with current Information Technology Managers, Directors, Chief Technology Officers, Chief Information Officers, Chief Executive Officers and Vice Presidents of Technology.

According to NBITLO co-founder Jamel Knighten, "Membership in NBILTO will assist those taking part with the opportunity to become well-informed in order to have a real chance to make their dreams of landing a position of leadership in information technology a reality.  They will have access to a network to share information and support one another that can help them become more competitive Technology Leaders.  This is a phenomenal, young and focused group with the potential to really make a huge difference when we can't depend on current limited resources and corporate affirmative action policies to ensure that we achieve our rightful place in Information Technology Leadership. Obtaining a position of leadership in technology and succeeding is difficult and many of us go through this process alone.  A group like this is sorely needed.  We've done all of the tough preliminary work
to get it up and running, but now we need more vibrant, energetic and motivated people like YOU to make us better and keep us growing!"
