With less than 4 weeks to go before the annual fund raising event takes place, the volunteers at the Leader Dogs for the Blind have been working overtime to make sure the event lives up to its reputation as one of Arizona’s premier charity golf tournaments. The Leader Dogs Classic is a two day series of non-profit charity events that are annually planned, organized and staged by an organization of 100% local community volunteers.
The event supports Leader Dogs for the Blind, a recognized “Best in America” charity by the Independent Charities of America (ICA). Leader Dogs for the Blind was founded by three Detroit area Lions Clubs members in 1939 and provides dog guides to people who are blind and visually impaired to enhance their mobility, independence and quality of life. They have assisted over 14,000 people in achieving the freedom of safe and independent travel.
Each year, over 270 students attend a 26-day residential training program to be paired with a dog guide. The annual Leader Dogs Classic is held each spring with the primary goal of raising funds for the Leader Dogs for the Blind organization.
Leader Dogs is also one of only two schools in the world to offer dog guides to persons who are both deaf and blind. The breeding, raising, and training of both dogs and the "(blind) students" costs in excess of $45,000 PER DOG---and the dog and all the training is all at no charge to the students. The end result is that each recipient of a Leader Dogs for the Blind dog has much more mobility, freedom and independence.
Sponsors for the event so far include: Isagenix, Scottsdale Insurance, Global Prevention Services, Surety Placement Services, Schwartz Laser Eye Center, Maggianos, Desert Vista Dental, Morgan Stanley, T Systems North America, Royal Caribbean and Fairmont Hotels. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available, please contact Jeanette Kurtz at (480) 951-3600 for more information.
For those who want to participate in this worthwhile cause, but do not golf, the event offers a great way to participate with a fantastic dinner and silent auction held right after the golf tournament. It's a fun night with good food and company and it all serves the charitable efforts. You can register for the dinner and auction at a great price at www.LeaderDogsClassic.org.
