Tampa, FL – Jane Rullier, who was crowned Ms. Tampa Petite 2010, has become a spokesperson for Miles for Hope, a national nonprofit organization based in Clearwater that raises awareness and funding for cutting edge brain tumor treatments. Jane, who is 26 years old, has been chosen to represent the city of Tampa as Ms. Tampa Petite and is currently attending the University of South Florida where she has earned her degree in microbiology. Jane is also in the process of acquiring her second degree in communication sciences and disorders. Upon graduation from USF, Jane plans to pursue a career in speech pathology. She also wishes to specialize in neurogenics and more specifically, to work with adults who are suffering with traumatic brain injuries.
Brain tumors affect over 200,000 people each year, nearly the same number that are affected with breast cancer, and many are left with brain injuries and deficits resulting from the brain tumor. For this reason, Jane has joined with Miles for Hope and will use brain tumors as her pageant platform in an effort to raise much needed awareness and education in the community for this deadly disease.
Miles for Hope, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, founded by brain cancer survivor Robert Gibbs, is honored to have Jane representing Miles for Hope. “Our mission is to raise awareness and funding for brain tumor research, and since brain tumors result in brain injuries, this is a perfect platform for Jane to represent”, stated Gibbs. Robert has survived almost 6 years since his diagnosis in 2004, thanks to an experimental brain cancer vaccine he received. However, he was left with several residual deficits from his battle with brain cancer. “Most people are unaware of the magnitude of this disease, and how devastating this can be to both an individual and a family. As an organization, our mission is to provide funding to cutting edge brain tumor treatments that are less invasive, and provide for a better quality of life. We believe that with the help of numerous contributions, we can find treatments for brain tumors that result in less injury and toxicity to the brain.”
Jane believes, “It is important for people to be informed consumers and know about the effects of brain tumors. I wanted to join Miles for Hope because I want to raise awareness about brain tumors and help raise funds for research to find better treatments and ultimately, a cure. It’s truly an honor to have been chosen a spokesperson for Miles for Hope”.
Jane is not only passionate about her career and joining sides with Miles for Hope, but also pageants. Jane is also very talented; she enjoys singing, dancing, and painting, and is also fluent in Spanish. Jane will go on for the title of Ms. Florida petite, April 25th, 2010 at 6pm, at the Swan Hotel and Resort in Orlando Florida.
