For years, RE/MAX North Central has been gunning for the No. 1 position in Minneapolis.
In 2009, it finally accomplished that goal, passing longtime market leader Edina Realty in number of homes sold in the 13-county Twin Cities region.
Credit a willingness to adapt to a difficult market, says Greg Cecchettini, in the April issue of industry newsletter "Real Estate Broker's Insider."
The director of franchise development for RE/MAX North Central, Cecchettini notes foreclosures and short sales are now an important part of the Twin Cities real estate market. RE/MAX has urged agents to earn the certified distressed property expert, or CDPE, designation.
Cecchettini acknowledges that optimistic Realtors aren't always keen to embrace a training course that's based on the idea that things aren't rosy in the housing market.
"The market kind of pushes you into the position of training in something that maybe you'd rather not have to learn about," he says.
