Wedding Guest Shot Playing Russian Roulette

Bride and groom watched as wedding guest shot himself while playing Russian roulette.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr 03, 2010 -
Recently Russian television showed a video of a wedding guest, who shot himself in the head with a rubber bullet, during a game of Russian roulette, at a wedding in Astrakhan, Russia.

The video shows an extract of the man speaking with the groom, during a toast, then grabbing a gun, pointing it at his own head and pulling the trigger. There was an trashing sounding click and nothing more.

The gun was obtained by another man who also shot himself in the temple, but immediately fell to the floor, in front of the revolted bride and groom, as the bullet blasted into the man’s head.

The Komsomolskaya Pravda daily stated that the victim was hospitalized with a critical head injury. The victim is described as having put up brain damage with injury and paralysis.

The man who gave the gun over, was detained and accused of hooliganism. He says it was just a ‘party trick’ and persisted in saying he had left no bullets in the gun. "I assumed lots of applause after I did it and by no means presumed someone would do it again."

Russian roulette, is a possibly fatal game of chance, that is believed to have begun in 19th century, in Tsarist Russia. The cylinder would be spun after only one bullet had been placed in the gun chamber. The prisoners would then be compelled to put the muzzle against their head and pull the trigger. The prison officials would lay bets on who would be killed.

Years later, during the Russian Revolution, officers would stage the ‘game’ in front of comrades. Some, it is thought, were suicidal, while others, just like the casualty of the wedding shooting, merely desired to demonstrate their bravery.

It is claimed that British author Graham Greene often played Russian roulette in his youth. During his burglary career Malcolm X says that he played Russian roulette to prove to his partners in crime that he had no fear of death. The man who endeavoured to shoot Ronald Reagan, John Hinckley, Jr., was seen to play Russian roulette, on at least two occasions.

William Shockley, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for Physics and co-inventor of the transistor, tried to suicide by playing a solo game of Russian roulette.

Derren Brown, psychological illusionist, played Russian roulette on October 5th, 2003, on British Channel 4. The broadcast was shown live with a slight delay, in the event of something going wrong. The incident was reported as being a fraud.

A later study disclosed that through the years, 80% of the victims of Russian roulette, were white, all of them males and with an average age of 25 years. Alcohol played a greater part than any other cause of suicide by shooting.
