March 31, 2010 - PRLog -- The 2010 Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina Visitor Guide, published by the 10-county tourism coalition Blue Ridge Mountain Host based in Asheville, NC, celebrates the historical and cultural highlights along the Blue Ridge Parkway during its 75th anniversary year, including the foothills of Rutherford County and the Lake Lure area.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is an entrée to the activities surrounding Lake Lure in Rutherford County in the Blue Ridge Mountain Host region. From the Parkway, visitors can exit near the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center between mileposts 384 and 385, onto Highway 74-A headed east.  Along the way is Chimney Rock Village, where visitors can make a brisk tubing run down the roaring Rocky Broad River. Chimney Rock State Park is also easily accessible, recently preserved as North Carolina’s newest state park.  Perched high atop Chimney Rock, there are sweeping, spectacular views of Hickory Nut Gorge and the 720-acre Lake Lure.

The town of Lake Lure, NC has long drawn visitors with its inviting lake, beach, golf courses and other recreational opportunities. Lake Lure, which covers 720 acres and has a shoreline of about 27 miles, is the town's gem, ringed by mountains in a sparkling setting. Lake Lure was originally formed when a dam was created on the Rocky Broad River. It now draws people to frolic on the beach, swim, boat and fish. On the boat tours in the area, visitors can learn about the cultural and natural history of Lake Lure and see some of the locations used in filming the movie "Dirty Dancing."

The 2010 Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina Visitor Guide highlights accommodations in the Lake Lure area. Lake Lure hotels, inns and other accommodations offer a myriad of experiences for the traveler. Whether it be a Lake Lure hotel room just steps away from a plunge in the Rocky Broad River, a mountain cabin on a gravel road, a beautiful historic inn, a resort surrounded by golf courses and other amenities, a family vacation rental on the lake, a convention hotel, or a memorable camping experience, Lake Lure hotels and accommodations in the area provide a wide variety of lodging.
