Today it seems as just about any challenge can be turned into a video game, from military encounters to educational games suitable for a three-year old. For those who want to put their creative design skills to the test, The New England Institute of Art has launched a new concentration in Game Art & Design as part of their Bachelor’s degree program in Media Arts & Animation.
Students will be taught design, illustration, compositing, 3-D computer modeling and animation and learn how they can be applied in the world of gaming. The Game Art & Design concentration is designed to teach the basics of drawing, color theory, and 2-D design. Students will then progress to modeling and animation.
The most advanced coursework in the Game Art & Design concentration will include scriptwriting, storyboarding, character animation, and production. Before they graduate, students will develop a portfolio of their work from game design to show potential employers. Graduates of this concentration in Game Art & Design can pursue entry-level jobs like character animator, modeler, game tester, and game designer.
