March 30 - New Jersey ─ The New Jersey Girl Scout councils hosted a breakfast with State Legislators at the offices of the Capital Impact Group in Trenton, NJ on March 16, 2010. The breakfast was part of an ongoing initiative that has aligned the New Jersey Girl Scout councils with women currently serving in the NJ State Legislature. The bipartisan group is known as Troop NJ. The legislators attending the breakfast included: Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Assemblywoman Pamela Rosen Lampitt, Assemblywoman Dianne Gove, Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz, Assemblywoman Shelia Oliver, and Assemblywoman Nellie Pou.
An amazing 64% percent of today’s women leaders in the United States (civic, corporate, political, etc.) were once Girl Scouts. In 2010, 34 women serve in New Jersey’s state legislature;
The New Jersey Girl Scout Councils will continue to advocate in partnership with Troop New Jersey to help advance the Girl Scout Movement and improve girls' lives through legislative awareness and education to address issues that impact girls.
The four New Jersey Councils plan to continue to build this grassroots advocacy network with the announcement of its upcoming leadership conference “Through the Looking Glass” this summer at Georgian Court University, Lakewood, NJ, scheduled from July 23-25, 2010. The focus of the conference is to provide a platform to promote healthy media images for girls statewide.
