Türk Telekom, one of the world’s largest fixed line operators and Turkey’s leading communication and convergence technologies company, reached more than 110,000 subscribers in its first month with new webTV product Tivibu. Launched though Türk Telekom Group’s broadband operator TTNET on February 24th, Tivibu offers television and cinema experiences to the users of its high-speed broadband service.

WebTV does not require the user to have a fixed location or a set-top-box: a webTV account and a broadband connection are enough to use the service. The [free to download] software and the middleware for Tivibu, have been developed by Argela, one of Türk Telekom Group's technology companies. Argela provides global telecom operators with distinguished and innovative turn-key solutions including fixed-mobile convergence solutions, IMS Applications, Intelligent Networks and Service Delivery Framework. Türk Telekom has combined the industry leading skills of both Argela and TTNET to meet the communication and entertainment needs and desires of its customers.

Tivibu as a webTV solution independent of time and place, not only offers main broadband services but also other functionalities such as Pause Live TV, Time Shift TV and Catch Up TV as well as Video-On-Demand (subject to subscription). With this technology the customers will also have access to a variety of content including domestic and foreign movies, popular TV series, documentaries, and children’s, lifestyle, and entertainment programs. Viewers will have the opportunity to watch those whenever they like within the same week.

With Argela’s unicast Catch-Up TV application, Tivibu will capture TV programs and store them on the content storage areas within the network. Those captured programs will be available to subscribers via Content-On-Demand at a later time though an operator interface. The service will allow the recording of a number of programs or channels by users.  With such features, Tivibu will be a one-stop-shop for entertainment and communication and will continue to evolve with new content and features, bringing cinema and television and communication together and making them portable.
