March 30, 2010 - PRLog -- MetrolineDirect has donated an 18 unit PC lab to the Philippine American Community Center of Michigan.  In addition to general computing, the PCs will be used for web access, language learning, and cultural endeavors.

“We’re ecstatic about these computers.  A variety of activities will be enhanced with Internet access alone.  In particular our dance, language, and cultural activities will benefit greatly from the enormous resources on the web.  We also foresee a great opportunity to teach our seniors general computing skills,” said Fred Porte the program director at the PACCM.

With today’s economy squeezing budgets, some of the most unfortunate funding shortages have occurred in public educational institutions and non-profit organizations.  As these sectors rely on predetermined budgets, any cuts to their bottom lines are felt almost immediately.  Used technology equipment can provide them with savings up to seventy percent.

Used PCs in particular can have powerful implementations while keeping costs under control.  The plethora of open-source software that is currently available is astounding.  Using OpenOffice, Firefox, and AVG anti-virus, your computer’s desktop can become a powerful workspace in minutes.  Best of all, these applications are free.

“We’ve discovered a great fit between entry level used PCs and schools and non-profits.  Even though these PCs come in with a few miles on them, they still have plenty of power for internet access and basic computing.  Why not use something until it’s all used up?” said Barry Werthmann, President of MetrolineDirect.
