March 30, 2010 - PRLog -- "URBAN OASIS" TOPS 2010 LANDSCAPE AWARDS WITH GOLD AWARD AND JUDGE'S AWARD FOR "BEST-IN-SHOW" IN ANNUAL COMPETITION.

Blue Island (Chicago), IL - Every year the most extraordinary landscape projects in the Midwest region compete in the Excellence in Landscape Awards hosted by the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association. This year's big winner is Kinsella Landscape, Inc. headquartered in Blue Island, Illinois. Four of their residential and commercial projects garnered 1 Silver Award, 3 Golds, and the recently added Judges Award for "best-in-show" for a stunning backyard makeover at a private residence in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The Lincoln Park (Chicago), "Urban Oasis" project is the epitome of city living - transforming a crumbling and worn, but extra wide, city lot into a chic and ultra-private outdoor dining and living area,  with an assortment of exotic plants and trees (brought in with the use of an 80-ton crane), and a "beamy" bluestone patio broad and smooth enough for the family's roller-blading 6-year old. The area sparkles at night with warm-hued accent lighting that emphasizes the curved lines and rhythmic textures of plants and stone.

The "Urban Oasis" also won the competition's "best-in-show" honor by capturing the Judges Award; receiving the highest cumulative score among all projects in all categories, and the highest score ever in the Judges Award contest.

Kinsella's other three award-winning projects include a green roof installation on top of the luxury high-rise apartments in the West Loop called Echelon at K Station, maintenance of the landscaped grounds at the bucolic Park Row townhome community on Chicago's lakefront (where Chicago's Mayor Daley resides), and the landscape design for a French Country-inspired estate in Flossmoor, IL.

The ILCA's Excellence In Landscape Awards evaluates projects in 15 submission categories including: Commercial and Residential Construction, Maintenance, Green Roofs, Interiors, Sustainable Landscapes, Special Event Installations, and Ecological Plantings. It's the "Oscars" of the landscape industry and coincidentally, takes place around the same time of the well-known film industry event.

The ILCA's 800 member-firms are industry leaders both economically and professionally in the design and installation of residential and commercial landscape projects in Illinois. Member companies have designed and installed projects throughout neighboring states as well and in Mexico, the Caribbean, and as far away as Israel.

For the first time, an exhibition of this year's award-winning landscape projects were on display at the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, which wrapped-up it's 8-day engagement at Navy Pier on March 14. "Cultivating Great Performances" was the theme of the 2010 CFGS which drew upward of 50,000 visitors.

Kinsella Landscape, Inc. was founded in 1994 by George and Susan Kinsella, who still have leading roles in the management of the business. The company's size ranks it at number 113 out of 70,000 firms across the country. Kinsella employs a highly trained staff of professionals with degrees in Plant and Soil Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, and Business; several of which are at the graduate level.
