Plagued by nightmares about the Big Bad Wolf making his way into his sty for a little midnight “snack,” Pork Chop’s hero at first hides and cowers in the face of adversity from his disgustingly disturbed dreams. Finally, however, he makes an oath to himself one fateful night and soon enrolls in Master Tusk’s Martial Arts Academy so he can stop being a “chicken” once and for all.
“Most of my literary endeavors have been inspired by my students’ lives,” says author Edminister, usually known as “Mr. Dave.” He holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education and teaches special needs children in the California public school system. His wife, Patty, works in the same school district and is the illustrator of the delightful, full color pictures that accompany Mr. Dave’s playfully alliterative text.
The Antelope Valley Literacy Coalition nominated Pork Chop as the top choice in the category of adult-authored children’s fiction and second place in the genre of adult-authored fiction overall. Mr. Dave has also won several other awards for his rhyming children’s stories, his poems and his song lyrics.
