IRVINE, Calif. – The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) is holding their annual Cinco de Mayo Half Marathon and 12th annual “Reaching for the Cure” 10K Run, 5K Run /Walk and 1K Kids’ Fun Run to help raise funds to find a cure for childhood cancer on May 2nd at the Irvine Spectrum Center. PCRF is expecting over 5,000 runners and over 8,000 participants this year.

Anthony Tesoriero of Irvine, CA, who will participate in the Half Marathon, is the winner of the mountain bike and gear from Rock N’ Road Cyclery, a promotion offered to everyone who registered for the race in January and February.   Mr. Tesoriero works for Radiant Systems, a sponsor and dedicated corporate supporter of PCRF and this event.  Mr. Tesoriero decided to run in the half marathon to support his company’s participation in the event.

PCRF is a local, nonprofit organization established in 1982 by parents, physicians and community leaders to improve the care, quality of life and survival rate of children with malignant diseases.  Dedicated volunteers of PCRF have helped raise more than $22 million for pediatric cancer research.  Cancer is the number one disease killer of children under age 20.  Every school day, 35 kids are diagnosed with cancer. However, because of research like that funded by PCRF, the survival rate of some pediatric cancers has increased from less than 15 percent to more than 75 percent in the past two decades.  This remarkable progress can be attributed solely to research.

In addition to the run, this event will feature the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Strike Force, Wild Wing of the Mighty Ducks, live mariachi bands, rock climbing wall, interactive video game truck, kids bounce houses, train rides, character drawings, petting zoo, expo, food vendors, beer garden for the adults and more!

To learn more about pediatric cancer, the PCRF organization, to volunteer, make a contribution or register for the “Reaching for the Cure” event on May 2, visit www.pcrf-kids.org or call the event hotline at (949) 859-6312.  To preview highlights of previous events, please go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9NqFO0_a-Y.
