Mick Mortlock has urged the Obama Administration to take advantage of the April 1st tradition of spoofs, pranks and hoaxes, to encourage Americans to be “imaginative on a grand-scale”
Mortlock noted in an op-ed to be published in the next issue of The Public Manager Magazine, that "out of 28,875 job openings in the US Government, close to zero percent call for imagination skills and this has been true since the Commission published its findings."
The 9/ll Commission stated that it was crucial to find a way of making the exercise of imagination routine. With that in mind, Mortlock’s email to Obama said:
“We have one "holiday" that is dedicated to imagination, April Fool's Day. On this day, unbridled imagination is unleashed around the globe.
I call on the Obama Administration to celebrate April 1st by encouraging government employees and citizens to create safe imaginative acts on a grand scale, and use the press to promote the best of these."
About Mick Mortlock: Mortlock’s writings about imagination have been published widely, and most recently in the 6th Edition of Strategic Management of Healthcare Organizations.
Mortlock was named one of America's leading futurists by The Public Manager, a prominent publication reaching federal, state and county government leaders. His career was profiled last fall in The Oregonian.
