Woodland Hills, CA, May 29, 2010: To commemorate Israel's 62nd Independence Day, the Israeli Leadership Council in partnership with El Al Airlines has initiated an interactive contest on Facebook® called "My ISRAEL," where participants can express their passion for Israel through personal photos and videos shared with the social networking community. To take part in the contest, participants upload a photograph or video that represents their vision of Israel to the My Israel group page, http://www.facebook.com/?
"MY ISRAEL" creates an online, interactive forum where participants can share their own personal experiences of Israel, whether it is a beautiful vista they captured on a trip to the Golan Heights, a poignant moment at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the colorful Middle Eastern shuks (bazaars) or the forming of a friendship between young Jews visiting Israel and a local Palestinian boy. Each participant defines what Israel means to them, often sparking comments and online conversations about the complex and multifaceted reality that is Israel today.
"This contest utilizes the power and reach of social networking to create a community of people who want to share their thoughts, passions and opinions of Israel," said Shoham Nicolet, executive director of the ILC. "Someone looking through the pictures submitted on 'My ISRAEL' has the opportunity to see the beautiful, nuanced, and vibrant culture of Israel that you don't see on the news. The participants are everyday people who experienced Israel in very individual ways, and want to share that with the world."
"My ISRAEL" is open to all residents of Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange County. Submissions are due by April 19, 2010 at 6pm PST.
The Israeli Leadership Council (ILC) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to fortify and enhance a productive and continuous relationship between Israeli-Americans and the State of Israel through community empowerment, activism, and philanthropy.
