Clariant at PaintIndia 2010-Sustainable Solutions for Coatings

India’s leading specialty chemicals producer - Clariant Chemicals showcased its array of products at PaintIndia 2010, March 4-6, 2010 in Mumbai, India. Clariant exhibited its broad product portfolio of colorants for paints under the theme “Sustainable Solutions for Coatings.” Economical as well as high-performance products, like Pigments, Emulsions and Biocides, for demanding applications were on display at the trade fair.

Safer and Eco-friendlier Pigments and Pigment Preparations
Mr. Tej Dialani, Head of Sales-Coating Business, BU Pigments, Clariant Chemicals (India) Limited opined that, “the market for both Decorative as well as Industrial coatings is expected to grow during the next two years at a much better and faster pace. Clariant is offering new and innovative products like Easy Dispersible Pigments, which can save energy, time and costs during the manufacturing process. Also our “70” series of organic pigments with optimized opacity takes care of lead free coloration for coatings. Pigment preparations for the “500” series are now available – these comply with VOC legislations. We also showcased the 2011 Styling Shades forecast for Automotive Paints – 28 new and trendy shades were displayed, which focused on pigments of unique shades. Pigments for Architectural Coatings
Mr. Juergen Stegmann, Clariant Produkte (Deutschland) GmbH, Germany presented a paper on “Pigments for Architectural Coatings” at the parallel conference ARCHCOAT 2010 (Architectural Coatings) in Hall 1 on March 4, 2010. He elaborated, “The right choice of pigments for a well balanced architectural coating system requires the consideration of various factors such as stability in critical paint systems, coloristical properties, fastness properties and efficient dispersibility. Special surface treated pigments like Easy Dispersible pigments from Clariant do not include hard agglomerates and are easy to disperse without the need for any milling in a bead mill, leading to lower manufacturing cost and improved productivity. Clariant offers the best product recommendations along with customized technical services to enable you to choose the right Clariant pigment for your personal demand.”

High Performance Additives & Preservatives – Nipacides & Paint Additives
Clariant is a technology leader in Biocide Formulations. Surfactant Chemistry based on ethoxylates and specialty polyglycols offers state-of-the-art solutions for the current demands of the Indian market; e.g. VOC-free, low odour and APEO-free Paint Additives as well as formaldehyde free Preservatives. Clariant’s Emulsogen® LCN range of non ionic and low VOC surfactants represents a high performance alternative to the APEO systems that needs to be replaced. Nipacide® BSM and Nipacide® BIT 10W is the “green” preservative which combined with our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and an elaborate technical service offers the perfect combination of product and service which will enable our customers achieve the best and eco-friendly preservative solutions.

Emulsions for Water-based Wood and Metal Coatings
The Emulsions Business -- a major supplier of polymer dispersions for paints, coatings, construction, adhesive industries also showcased their new technology emulsions like Mowilith® LDM 7451, Mowilith® LDM 7064 and Mowilith® LDM 70.  The products have low VOC, no smell, and quick drying that meets the local demands of our industry. They also provide good block resistance with enhanced gloss on wood and metals.

Mr. Asis Patnaik, Head of BU Emulsions in India explained, “From the domestic market perspective, offering water based products will not suffice, but to meet the demands of the customers in terms of the gloss, blocking resistance and moreover the economics are of paramount importance.”
