March 27, 2010 - PRLog -- TestOptimal announced GA release 3.0 on March 21, 2010, a major release since its previous release 2.1.  The release 3.0 offers several new features and enhancements including WebMBT Builder, scriptless Data-Driven Testing (DDT), Pairewise (Combinatorial) Testing, debugger with animated graphs, a set of new options to integrate with other test automation tools like QTP, TestComplete, etc. and a new mobile client for iPhone, BlackBerry and other mobile devices.

WebMBT Builder is a Firefox add-in that allows the user to build a fully automated test suite in a matter of minutes as you navigate through pages of your web application.  The test automation suite consists of a behaviour model of your application and system generated automation scripts. The test sequence generated from the model covers 100% of buttons and links in the application.  This process is called Model-Based Testing (MBT).

Data-Driven Testing can be performed easily with TestOptimal with or without scripting.  The dataset (data table) is created directly from your web page.  The TestOptimal detects the domain values of each field in the dataset and automatically populates dataset and generates scripts to drive your application.

Creating a set of data to sufficiently cover different scenarios for a web page with many data entry fields can be a daunting task (Combinatorial Testing). The most popular and efficient algorithm used is Pairwise.  TestOptimal 3.0 now supports Pairwise, 3-wise, and all-pairs algorithms for generating test data.  In fact when you create Data-Drive Testing dataset, TestOptimal automatically populates the dataset using Pairwise algorithm.

Debugging and identifying steps to reproduce a defect are made easy with the animated graph highlighting series of links that led to the defect and a set of trace methods that automatically logs the detailed path leading up to the defect.

There are several ways to integrate TestOptimal with other test automation tools extending the capability of TestOptimal and allowing you to leverage your existing testing assets and testing resources.  Through its web service api, TestOptimal can integrate with most major test automation tools like QTP and TestComplete as well as other open source tools like AutoIT.

The same model and automation scripts are then used to perform functional testing, cross browser testing and load testing (virtual users) with choice of 5 different test sequencers. The model and automation scripts are archived into a single file for easy deployment to QA environment and protection from accident changes.

You can develop, debug, control and monitor your test executions with a browser.  With the new mobile browser application, you can even monitor your test execution remotely from your mobile devices that support javascript.
