March 26, 2010 - PRLog -- As relocation experts, at Move One we know  how important it is to familiarize yourself with your potential new home before making the big move.

Move One is therefore pleased to announce present its country profiles, which take a closer look at Relocation, Immigration , Moving and Pet Transportation issues in each of its locations.

Before considering importing your pets or acquire one in Saudi Arabia there are several thing you may want to consider.

Among local Arabs, it is not usual to have pets, especially with dogs deemed unclean in the Islamic tradition. Locals are usually scared of cats as most are wild and other animals are not usually kept indoors. Only the rich actually keep animal as pets in their own home.

However, today, more and more people from the ‘affluent elite’, mostly expatriates and a minority of affluent Saudi nationals are acquiring pets. Indeed, pedigree dog and cat ownership is increasingly being perceived as a status symbol.

Before relocating with your pet or considering buying one, please bear in mind that not all accommodation types in Saudi Arabia will allow you to have pets, especially if you are renting. Also note that as locals tend to be scared of animals, walking your dog may have to be restricted to compound boundaries.

Pet clinics as well as pet stores exist, but it is advised to find a reliable vet before considering buying a new pet.

Pet food is also easily available in most supermarkets or department stores.

To import your pet into Saudi Arabia you will require:

   * A Veterinary Health Certificate with an accompanying letter from your vet, addressed to the Director of Customs, Saudi Arabia. This document should confirm that the animal is up-to-date with its vaccinations and does not have rabies or any other disease. It must then be verified by the relevant government ministry of the exporting country’s national government and also validated by the Saudi Arabian embassy or consulate.
   * An import permit from the Saudi Arabia National Authority for the Protection of Wildlife and Development.
   * A customs declaration upon arrival.

In the case of dogs, technically, only guard, hunting, and service dogs are allowed into Saudi Arabia, so you must successfully claim that your dog is one of these.
