By: Jayne Howarth Mrs Janet Perry, of St Mary’s Way, Aldridge, is hoping to book a trip to the States after scooping the £1,000 voucher, donated by Co-op Travel in Walsall. A regular supporter of hospice fundraising events, Mrs Perry said she was thrilled to have won the top prize. The grand raffle, which was drawn at hospice headquarters in Churchill Way, Bentley, raised just over £4,000. Building work is well underway at the hospice, which is part of the palliative care centre in Goscote Lane, Goscote, and due to open early in 2011. But £1.5 million needs to be raised for equipment and initial running costs. An array of events are being held this year to raise the vital cash, including the Joy of Six campaign to get everyone to raise £6 for June, a Midsummer Masquerade ball in June and a sponsored abseil down Walsall Art Gallery. Cheryl Bradburne, head of fundraising at Walsall Hospice, said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who bought tickets for the grand raffle and to those companies who generously donated prizes, especially Co-op Travel, which has supported us in the past.” # # # Jayne Howarth is a freelance journalist/copywriter and PR in the English West Midlands, working on behalf of Walsall Hospice End
