The report shows that among the lost baggage, 52 per cent were misplaced during aircraft transfers, while another 16 percent were not loaded on planes on time. Other problems included ticketing errors, mishandling at the arrival point and tagging problems, said SITA.
The report also says that the vast majority of the missing luggage could be returned within 48 hours.
The report also said that the figures have greatly improved over the previous year, when 32.8 million bags failed to arrive on time. Some of the decline can be attributed to fewer passengers traveling than last year, it said.
