The garden is a unique, sophisticated and unusually large (65' x 37') outdoor space for an urban property. It was designed by the homeowners based on a geometric 3x3' grid layout of Pennsylvania bluestone hardscape and limestone capped stucco walls which, at one point, jog in a zig-zag pattern. In keeping with the exterior architecture and ambiance of the home's interior, the bi-level hardscape incorporates a lower dining patio, grill alcove and upper patio surrounded by large planting areas. Several walls are covered by climbing hydrangea with lower plantings of liriope, sedums, and flowering perennials. The larger landscape specimens were brought in prior to construction to assure mature plantings in the early life of the garden. They include an Eastern White Pine, three Serviceberries, a Southern Magnolia, a Paperbark Maple, and a River Birch. Smaller shrubs and flowering perennials and annuals complete the compositions of the beds. On the upper patio is an L-shaped Koi pond with flowering water perennials and a stainless steel waterfall trough.
