March 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Walking The Spirit Tours of Black Paris has joined with BlackAtlas.com and American Airlines to offer a chance to win a fabulous trip to the soul of Paris. The winner enjoys an exhilarating six days discovering African-American and African heritage as well as the classic sites and tastes of the City of Lights. As Walking The Spirit Tours showcases Paris' rich Black culture, in order to win the contest hopefuls are likewise encouraged to show off their pride and passion in a city's heritage and culture.

The Soul of Paris contest launched March 16 on BlackAtlas.com and closes March 31. Since the site is a portal for travelers to share and contribute their travel knowledge and experiences, contestants enter the contest by submitting a story or video highlighting their hometown or one the cities on BlackAtlas’ featured city list. Between April 1-15, the site community votes for the best entry and voila! Two people will find themselves jetting off for a thrilling week full of culture, shopping and gastronomy in Paris.

This most unique itinerary has been created by Julia Browne, CEO & Founder of Walking The Spirit Tours. Browne has loved sharing her passion for Paris and its Black history since 1994. The winners’ prize pack includes a private 5-hour Spirit of Black Paris historical walking/bus tour that whisks them back through vibrant Black Montmartre of the 1920s, strolls the art gallery district of St.Germain-des-Pres where Henry O. Tanner painted, admires the honorary plaque for Richard Wright and relives Josephine Baker’s glory on the Champs-Elysées. Contestants also enjoy a sumptuous dinner and lively jazz show at the welcoming Petit Journal Montparnasse jazz club.  Paris’ African and Caribbean community are sampled through dining, exhibitions and walks. And, to begin and end each day in the heritage theme, accommodations are provided by a hotel important to African-American history. At the Hotel du Vieux Paris, a luxury Latin Quarter hotel, detective novelist Chester Himes penned the 1957 award-winning book that was made into the movie A Rage In Harlem starring Forrest Whitaker. Of course, there will be ample time to visit extraordinary museums, take a romantic river cruise, lunch at the Eiffel Tower, take morning coffee alongside Parisians, fill shopping bags, and even explore dynamic neighborhoods.

Black Atlas is a unique online community offering travel insights through submitted stories and videos from an African-American perspective. Black Atlas is a division of American Airlines, which has a long history of inclusion and diversity and continually works to celebrate African-American achievement and culture. Walking The Spirit Tours is the longest running Black heritage tour company in Paris. For over 16 years, they have made it their mission to educate and build an appreciation of the African-American & French cultural exchange through fascinating tours, lectures and personalized itineraries.
