The purpose of the event was to recreate an election campaign and draw the students into political debate and discussion. Students assumed the roles of politicians and presented the opinions of the Conservative;
Questions from the floor prompted discussions on investment in education, public services, democracy, free speech and foreign policy. Head of History, Jonathan Selby, organised the event and said, ‘Students volunteered to represent the political parties and were then left to their own devices to research the political viewpoints: they were extremely convincing. The question and answer session by the real candidates provoked some lively discussion and even some cross party fire. They spoke with sincerity and the spirit and soul of the individual parties was clearly conveyed.’
