David was born and raised in Escondido, was a professional sales person and like most San Diegans was feeling the effects of the recession. The recession wasn’t causing him to feel doom and gloom; he was looking at all of the paintings and feeling hope. “It’s not that I felt like I was better than the other Artists, it’s that I felt I had the same qualities of the other artists that I admired. I am always teaching my daughter to take chances and follow what she loves, but I realized I wasn’t taking any chances myself. What kind of example was I? What kind of father was I?” stated Villa. David and his wife decided he would put 60+ hours a week of his time to painting and see if he could make it financially. If nothing became of it he determined his actions would be congruent with his teachings: take a chance and follow your dream. David had been painting on and off for 15 years and he had developed a distinguishable style. One of his goals was to take all of his favorite places in San Diego, the ones he visited most often, and paint them on canvas. Villa stated, “I began a one-year plan with the help of my wife and a success training company called ALC, I became organized and focused. I dedicated all of my time to painting. Sometimes I would lose track of time, starting in the early morning and finishing late each night, sometimes I would paint right through the night in to the morning. I just wanted to see just how well I could do in one year. One goal I had laid out was to display all of my work in 2010 at the Mission Federal Art Walk and see if I could make this work financially.” David has thousands of pictures of San Diego around his work place. He frequently photographs the same area throughout the day taking photos as the light changes. “Once I have the picture in my memory, like painting “Coronado” It is one year later and David Villa just won the T-shirt competition, and the image of this painting will appear on the official event T-shirt worn by artists, volunteers, and attendees who will have an opportunity to purchase the shirt. These t-shirts have become collector’s items throughout the festival’s 26-year history. Knowing that his work is going to be seen everywhere that weekend is humbling and exciting for him. David stated, “I can now look my daughter in the eyes and say take a chance and follow your dream. I did.” For more information, please contact: David TYRONE Villa http://davidtyronevilla.com/ davidtyronevilla@ End
