NHMA, which is organized as a Non-Profit Corporation under Louisiana State Law, has a fifteen member board. The board includes a diverse group of practitioners, government officials, and academics. The five newest members bring a range of expertise to NHMA.
George Haddow, who served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the former Director of the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, is a Principal in the Washington, DC based disaster management consulting firm of Bullock & Haddow, LLC. Mr. Haddow is also a Research Scientists and Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Crisis, Disaster, and Risk Management at George Washington University.
JoAnn Jay Howard is former Administrator of the National Flood Insurance Program, where she managed more than $523 billion of in flood insurance. She is currently associated with H2O Partners, Inc., a firm that consults in flood insurance, disaster protection and recovery, mitigation, and floodplain management.
David Jackson is the State Hazard Mitigation Officers for the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security. In this capacity, he conducts risk and vulnerability assessments, reviews local mitigation plans, oversees mitigation grants, provides technical support to local communities, and coordinates the state’s all-hazard mitigation strategy.
Barbara Miller is Chief Executive Officer of the Jefferson County, West Virginia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department. She is responsible for directing the Department’s organization, administration, and operations.
Lori Peek is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Colorado State University. She also serves as the Associate Chair of the Social Science Research Council Task Force on Hurricane Katrina and Rebuilding the Gulf Coast.
