In 1973 a 20 year old kurt listug approached sam radding, the proprietor of American Dream guitar shop in California and asked if he would hire him top do some work on guitars.
A few weeks later, another youngster, 18 year old Bob Taylor, also managed to wrangle a job from Radding. Both craftsmen, Listug and Taylor worked on their first guitars together. They managed to build a few guitars , but mostly got by just doing repairs
In 1974 Radding put the shop on for sale. Listug, with a partner bought out the guitar shop. However both Listug and partner knew nothing about building guitars – that was the supreme stumbling block in getting the money to buy Radding out. The financier was actually Listug’s father. Daddy Listug insisted that they find someone who knew how to build guitars- that was Bob Taylor
Talor was easily convinced and the three bought the shop and renamed it Westland Music Company. Taylor’s Name was put behind the guitars as he was the most talented. Listug watched aster the business ansd the Taylor brand grew.
In 1983, Taylor and Listug bought out Schemmer and expanded the line. They created a big guitar manufacturing company. In 2008, with over 300 employees employed in California and texas
Where the “Baby” taylors are made and the big baby Taylor’s are crafted respectively
After 30 years of hard work and determination, the Taylor guitar is better than ever. There are many famous and talented musicians who play Taylor guitars but unlike some other guitar manufacturing companies, these artists don't get paid to endorse Taylor guitars. Also the company doesn't give away free guitars to gain exposure. So when you see an artist playing a Taylor guitar, they are doing it because they love the instrument
