The American Diabetes Association and the mainstream medical establishment are either guilty of intellectual inertia or blatantly hiding the truth. As far back as 1993 with The Kitava Study and as recently as 2009 in Duke University Medical Center study, research has concluded that a hunter gatherer type, low carbohydrate diet leads to greater improvement in blood sugar control. Commonly know as the caveman or Paleolithic diet, it’s still not known to most diabetics.
Why do Doctors and the ADA still promote diets that have been shown to be less effective? “I hope it’s an unwillingness to change,” states author M. Abdul-Malik. “Some conspiracy theorist suggests that the big drug companies are behind this scientifically proven diet still being a secret to most diabetics.”
Research has show that eating this way can also help prevent the onset of diabetes. “With the passing of the new health bill, I’m sure insurance companies will be pushing the Paleodiet as a cost cutting measure. Let’s just hope the doctors get on board.”
