"This disconnection is coined, Functional Disconnection Syndrome.  So, lets pinpoint what is affected. Your brain is formed by two cerebral hemispheres, a left and right side. The left side is going to be coined as the gas pedal. The right side will be known as the brake. Within the first 2 years of life, emphasis on development of the right cortex (hemisphere) is given, a natural process for every person. After the first 2 years, the emphasis is switched to the left cortex (the right cortex is still under development, but the emphasis switches)."

Dr. King stated that "when trauma (maternal health, environmental health, genetics, etc.) occurs during the first two years, it affects the original developmental process of a child's brain.  If the foundational groundwork is interrupted during this time, a functional disconnection between the two hemispheres will develop."

Brain Based Therapy is a treament protocol that focuses on strengthening the weak hemispheres of the brain.  In a majority of cases, Dr. King says that the right hemisphere is the "weaker" side, since it was affected during development.  Meaning, the "brake pedal" can not be applied and we see conditions such as ADD/ADHD.  Brain Based Therapy is neurological retraining of the brain, basically...finding the weak areas and making them strong again.  

While the neurological therapy is impormant, the metabolic therapy is equally as important.  "Majority of these cases are suffering from food sensitivities, parasites, bacteria, and blood chemistry imbalances that are going unchecked and mis-diagnosed," offers Dr. King.  "These people are suffering for a reason, 90% of the battle is diagnosing them the proper way.  You must run specifc laboratory testing on them: blood chemistry panels, GI testing, sensitivity testing (gluten, soy, casein, egg, and yeast), adrenal gland testing, etc."
