MathScore.com Increases Test Scores in EETT Grant-Funded Program

Users of mathematics software at Bess Maxwell School significantly outperform the control group.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 23, 2010 -
Palo Alto, California – Accurate Learning Systems Corporation  recently announced that its program, MathScore.com, has raised test scores for 4th and 5th grade students at Bess Maxwell School in Del Norte County, Calif. These students used the math software program to increase scores to achieve 83.3% proficiency, up from 45.2%. Those in the control group, which was not using MathScore, dropped from 57% to 40% in proficiency.

The students used the supplemental program as math help about 30-60 minutes per week to individually practice the exact skills that they needed to learn most.  Based on the data, many of these students were weak with basic computation skills, particularly math facts, and others needed help with problem solving. Through teacher observation, the children also had a higher interest in doing math problems.

“Even we were surprised at the success the students using MathScore achieved over those students in the control group,” said Steven Yang, CEO and founder. “We've observed large proficiency gains in previous studies, but these results are even better.”

Featuring computerized generation of math problems that help students in elementary school through Algebra I to master the concepts, MathScore applies patent-pending algorithms to adapt the difficulty of the problems based on each student's individual performance. As the child successfully completes a series of questions, it gets harder until proficiency in the subject is achieved.

“We believe we've succeeded in building an academically rigorous program that contains enough addictive gaming qualities to keep students engaged without distracting them from learning,” said Yang. “Our focus is on motivating them to set goals and learn as much as possible.”

The program also generates random math worksheets for children to work on at home as extra homework, with a tutor or as part of a homeschooling curriculum.

MathScore helps students become better at math by providing unlimited, adaptive math practice. Developed by MIT graduates, MathScore is proven to raise test scores, and trusted by schools and individual families worldwide. MathScore is appropriate for first grade through Algebra I. The MathScore practice and assessment environment also provides automated remediation, enabling efficient differentiated instruction with minimal teacher effort.
