Tampa – Give a young child or young adult a fiction book or novel and you’ll find that it can often leave an impression. The impression can be positive or negative. Sometimes children believe what they read, other times, well, it’s just too unbelievable to be true. Either way, the impression you want your kids to experience should be a positive one; preferably a story that affirms a hopeful message about understanding and accepting our differences with people we know, or don’t know.

A new line of children and young adult books from Soto Publishing does exactly that. They provide young readers an exercise in imagination, fun and adventure. Each wonderful story is filled with interesting characters that young readers can identify with. And imbedded within the threads of each story, as it untangles, are valuable lessons about life, about friendships, about family, and about oneself. Learning about moral and ethical values doesn’t have to be boring.

Pick up a book and let the story take you and your child on an adventure: like ten-year-old Owen, of Owen and the Dragon, who had to leave everything behind, including his best friend, when his father got a new job and moved the family to a new place. He soon learns he isn’t alone as he befriends an eccentric but fun girl about his age and of all things, a dragon. Or, what about amateur sleuth Kirsten Camarata of Riddle at the Rodeo, who sets her mind to solving a mystery at a junior bull-riding championship. She’s not a local, nor has she ever set foot on a farm. You can only imagine all the things that could go wrong, and they do, when she decides to enter the rodeo competition to get behind the scenes. And, in Behind Green Glass, sixteen-year-old Isolde and her mother move into a farmhouse that’s rumored to be haunted. Inside, Isolde discovers a shard of green glass and a new world opens up for her. She soon discovers that Lyric, once believed to be a ghost, is a Forgotten One, a fairy cast out of his realm for his imperfections. In time, Isolde and Lyric learn their imperfections can also be their greatest strengths.
