Hoa Minh Truong’s story is not one that seeks to cast blame, rather it is an honest accounting of a period of time -- and more than 100,000 lives -- that history would prefer to ignore.
As he describes passing the child soldiers of the conquering force, who’d been heavily armed by Russian communists, he evokes both horror and confusion. Forced into camps that were truly prisons, Hoa and other military personnel and civil servants were subjected to unimaginable conditions.
A first-hand narrative, Hoa’s story gives voice to the many lives that were silenced forever. Told with humility and grace, The Dark Journey is a humbling tale of the darkest sides of humanity and the resilience of the human spirit.
