“We have not put parameters on what the students can do with the shoes. They can paint on them, use them as their muse, cut them up and create something entirely different or whatever their creative minds come up with,” says Justin Burdon, the store’s co-founder.
Their works will be displayed at SEAC on the evening of April 7, from 6 – 9 pm when the store is converted into a gallery. The public will be invited to vote for their favorite creation. The votes will be tallied and the three top finishers will be invited back to a Boston Marathon weekend party at SEAC where the winner will be announced. That student will be treated to a day with the design team at Saucony in Lexington, MA.
The students entered represent a cross-section of The New England Institute of Art. They are enrolled in degree programs in Graphic Design, Fashion & Retail Management, Digital Film and Video Production, Advertising, Interior Design, Media Arts & Animation and Audio & Media Technology. “We are excited to see how this diverse group of students thinks outside the Shoebox,” says Burdon.
The event on April 7 at SEAC, 652 Tremont Street is open to the public.
