Here in Raleigh, North Carolina we have a vast amount of bats that can be found in buildings and attic throughout the Triangle. Bats are most active during the spring and summer months, the reason behind this is due to the birthing season that starts around April. During this time they are giving birth in their roosting sites and people are able to hear their activity. Then the bats will raise their young in the roosting sites throughout the summer and the babies will become mobile in the latter part of July. During this period homeowners will see droppings and hear high pitch vocalization coming from the roosting site.
Here are a few signs that you may have a colony living in your home:
Accumulation of droppings under gable vents.
High Pitch vocalization coming form roosting sites.
Scratching that sounds like it’s coming from the walls.
Dropping collecting under screen vents in attic areas.
Openings along rooflines with brown discoloration leading into entry point.
Swarming bats around home at dusk
Areas that are prone to bat infestation:
Louvers / Gable Vents
Chimneys
Gaps in roofline or around dormers
Behind Shutters
