Vedanta Aluminium Limited has launched a program to provide eye screening services to school children in Lanjigarh block of Kalahandi district. The program will cover all the schools in 21 Gram Panchayats in the block. The program is being implemented in partnership with LEPRA Society and District Administration and is expected to benefit more than 10,000 children in different schools.

More than 70 Head Masters from different schools of Lanjigarh block attended the sensitization program. Inaugurating the program Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Chief Operating Officer said, “Children’
As part of the program, total 165 school teachers would be trained on primary eye care and eye screening. These trained teachers would then conduct Eye Screening Camp in their respective schools to identify children with vision problems. A dedicated team of ophthalmology will visit the schools to support the teachers in the camp. The screened children will be reexamined by the ophthalmic assistant from LEPRA Society. The Company will also provide surgery, spectacles, medicine or referral services, depending upon the individual cases.
The Headmasters of the schools, who attended the training program appreciated Vedanta’s effort to improve eye care among their students. Mr. Mustaq Khan, SI of Schools, Lanjigarh; Dr. Akshaya Sahoo, Sr. Medical Officer, VAL; Dr. Bikash Praharaj, Medical Officer, VAL; and Mr. Narayan Malik, Project Officer of LEPRA Society were also present in the workshop.
Vedanta Aluminium Limited has taken up several steps to improve the quality of education for Children. It has been supporting about 1000 Anganwadi centers with additional nutrition. The Company is also going to provide nutritious mid-day-meal to children of Government aided schools in partnership with Naandi Foundation and District Administration.
