Toronto Police Salaries Continue to Grow Out of Control

Maybe the time has arrived for the police board and its operation to be taken completely out of the hands of metro council. Consideration might even be given to the amalgamation of this force with either the OPP or the RCMP.

March 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Toronto’s accumulated debt today stands at $1.9 Billion and unfortunately it is not only the police salaries that continue to spiral upwards at twice the annual rate of inflation.

Our incumbent councillors of 12 to 20 years have failed the people of this city by their mismanagement of  continuing to spend more than they takes in and increases the taxes on homeowners, renters and business alike year after year.

These councillors with their NDP ideology of being opposed to exploring ways to reduce costs has failed the people of the Toronto and left its residents with an accumulated debt today of close to $2 BILLION DOLLARS and they now have proposed to pass it on to our children over the next 35 years!

However it is not only the police salaries that continue to spiral upwards at twice the annual rate of inflation, but those of the TTC etc.

Toronto’s city wages increased 19% between 2000 and 2004 alone, while the inflation rate on average was only 2.4%!

The average wage in Ontario for this same period was at 10.5%. That was a whopping 199% above the average increase given by our incumbent councillors to their union friends at city hall.

First remember when the Police or the Police Board said The Police or the Police Board said ‘nay’ when it comes to disclosing the cost of their horses?

This is not to say that the service is not a great one, as it is, but the people have the legal right to know how and how much services are cost including all service of the Police department.

Second, paid duty constables that increase our police force's visibility around the city are perhaps a good idea but NOT at $65.00 per hour. They should only be charging our taxpaying private corporations’ NO MORE THAN $40 per hour!  Such double dipping and outrageous rates cost our taxpayers money through increased prices in the housing market, rental market and throughout the economy and should have been stopped by incumbent our councillors.

Finally, maybe the time has arrived for the police board and its operation to be taken completely out of the hands of metro council.

Consideration might even be given to the amalgamation of this force with either the OPP or the RCMP.

That way Toronto could upload these costs to the Province and federal governments where they belong. Do we really require a duplication of police forces at today’s costs?

Clarke, as yet an unofficial candidate, appreciates your support in any way in ensuring that on October 25, 2010 North York elects a NEW slate of common sense councillors for our
city.
