March 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Barra Honda National Park is located in Guanacaste about 22 kms North of the city of Nicoya. Part 3 of Costa Ricas Best Kept Secrets can be found in the small hill of Barra Honda. Just 300 meters tall lies a secret underworld for those who crave adventure and wish to explore this amazing cave system.

Barra Honda is known for its extensive network of independent caves and caverns. Inside you will see stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and many other formations. Only about 50% of the complex has been explored to date.

Of the 19 caverns explored, the most amazing has to be “Velvet” named so for its decorative formations. Some highlights include “The Organ” which produces different sounds when you hit it, “The Lions Head” and “The Curtains” as well as many, many more. A geologists dream.

To get to Barra Honda you must walk mountain paths where you will get to see flora and fauna that can be found in this area. The light walk is easy and peaceful. When you get to the entrance of the caves you will be provided all the equipment needed to start your underworld adventure.
