[Vancouver, WA],– Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington joins Boys & Girls Clubs across America this week to celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week, March 21-27, by hosting several events to emphasize the importance and value of the Clubs to the Clark County community. The organization invites everyone to come visit our two Clubhouses and see first-hand the impact being made on today’s youth.
“Boys & Girls Clubs are increasingly playing a vital role in many young people’s lives,” said Elise Menashe, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington.  “In today’s economic climate, we offer a positive place for kids whose parents are seeking a low cost, safe and enriching environment for their children.” The cost for parents to send their child to a Club is only $20 per year.
Boys & Girls Clubs are unique in the field of youth development due to five characteristics. Clubs provide:
•   A safe place to learn and grow,
•   Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals,
•   Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences,
•   Hope and opportunity, and
•   Peer, staff and volunteer recognition.
For more than 75 years, Clubs have celebrated Boys & Girls Club Week in a variety of ways, all with an emphasis on five core Club program areas: Character & Leadership Development; Education & Career Development; Health & Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. Activities in these five core areas support Boys & Girls Clubs overarching goal to help each child reach their full potential and BE GREAT by securing academic success, living a healthy lifestyle and distinguishing themselves as young leaders.
Preview just some of our planned activities for Boys & Girls Club Week:
   At our O.K. Clubhouse:
-   Conserve Don't Splurge... The Stream Team from Clark Public Utilities will educate our members!
-   Random Acts of Kindness Day…Creative ways to be thoughtful
At our Clinton & Gloria John Clubhouse:
-   Games and events from around the world…Each day a new continent will be highlighted.
-   Neighborhood Clean Up: Thursday the 25th at 4-5pm join the Street Sweep

Annually, over 2,000 youth in Clark County are taking advantage of the programs, activities, and services provided at our Clubs in Hazel Dell and the Bagley Downs neighborhoods of Vancouver. We serve all school-aged youth with a special focus on those with the greatest obstacles and the least opportunities in life. Our purpose is to inspire and enable young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

While the annual operating cost per child is $518, the Club maintains low annual dues of $20 so all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, can afford to belong. We rely on funding from grants and the generous support of our community to make up this significant difference.
