Florida, Fashion, Fun and Fundraising with Gladys Magazine!

March 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Gladys Magazine Fundraiser for Lauren’s Light!
“EXTRAVAGANZA”, a Premier Spectacle of Fashion, Jewels, Music & Dance, produced by Manny Alonso will be held in the Cathedral with a reception to follow in the garden
Designer gowns by Chic Parisien and jewels by Jimmy Quiroga Designs and Michael Bitton’s Diamond House will be worn by professional models from Atlanta, NY, Chicago, Pittsburgh & our own South Florida.  Telemundo’s Marko Figueroa singer and actor from “Perro Amor” will be performing as will the New Century Dance Company.  This is the FIRST TIME EVER a Cathedral will be the site of a fashion event.  Already a historic site, Trinity Cathedral is once again making history as they open their doors to help innocent victims of cancer.

The event will be hosted & covered by GLADYS, a quarterly published, national magazine sold in Barnes & Noble.  This isn’t the first time GLADYS has chosen South Florida.  In November of last year they shot a “Grand Escape to Florida” editorial at Grove Isle Hotel & Spa for their winter issue.  Miami models Elio P. Soto and Courtney Upshaw made their first national cover debut along with Lauren Standish who was also featured beckoning tourists to sunny South Florida.  Legendary Miami photographer George Contorakes showed the nation just why Florida is so special.  Gowns were provided by Rene Ruiz Couture & jewelry designs by  Jimmy Quiroga & Diamond House.  The Mercy Hospital Foundation Ball held in the Hotel Intercontinental was highlighted, as well as the Young Ambassadors of Mercy, led by Mr. & Mrs. Vince Castro and their Havana Nights Fundraiser at the Grove Isle Hotel & Resort.  The issue is still on stands in Barnes & Noble & Milams Grocery or available digitally at www.gladysmagazine.com.  The Spring issue also showcases South Florida with an editorial shot at Trinity Cathedral, by Brett Hufziger with models Janet Khamsi & Janina Insula both of Miami. The shoot previews the Lauren’s Light event.  America’s Next Top Model Judge Nigel Barker and his family are on the cover.  His work with the Rebuild Haiti & Edeyo Foundation is highlighted inside.  

Lauren’s Light is a non-profit organization that “helps families with young children in which a parent has been diagnosed with cancer”.  In 2001 Lauren Millin was happily married, raising 3 year old Joshua and was pregnant with her second child.  A problematic pregnancy resulted in an emergency C-section where it was discovered that Lauren had cancer, and it had spread.  Baby Matthew was born premature but miraculously healthy.    During her courageous battle for her life, her family discovered that while there were many resources for the cancer patient, none targeted the unique needs of families with young children.  They started Lauren’s Light in 2002 and testimonials from families all over the country are proof every day that Lauren’s Legacy lives.  

Joining in the fight for these innocent victims of cancer will be a select group of Florida women, including Mrs. Stephanie Sayfie Agaard, Mrs. Paula Fay, Mrs. Lisa Castro, Doctor Stephanie Haridopolos, Mrs. Jennifer Ruiz & Miss Elizabeth Vega.  These Florida women were chosen for their style & grace and commitment to family & community.  They will be modeling evening gowns in the show and will be featured as part of an editorial entitled “Florida Ladies We Love” in the July issue of Gladys.
