March 19, 2010 - PRLog -- According to a January 2010 release from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), imperfections and asymmetries are common following rhinoplasty surgery which is why some physicians are turning to soft tissue fillers as a means to smoothing and correcting any irregularities.

Dr. Mark Hagberg, a board-certified physician and owner of Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, a Minnesota-based cosmetic clinic, is not surprised by the recent release from the ASAPS.  “I have been using dermal fillers for years to reshape and correct irregularities of the nose,” he said. “Injectable products such as Radiesse, Perlane, Juvederm or Restylane can be used very effectively to correct and smooth a nose that is not perfected during plastic surgery.”

Dr. Hagberg uses injectable products consisting of hyaluronic acid (HA) or calcium hydroxylapatite gel (CaHA). “We have several options, depending on the patient’s budget or desired results,” he explained. “Some dermal fillers cost more upfront, but can last longer which might save money down the road.  I advise all potential clients to come in so I can look at their nose, make sure they are a viable candidate, then outline what options might be available to them.”

According to 2008 ASAPS statistics, rhinoplasty is among the top five surgical cosmetic procedures, with 152,434 procedures being administered.  Dr. Hagberg concluded by saying that dermal fillers can sometimes be considered an alternative to surgery. In some cases, a patient’s nose imperfection is such that a dermal filler can be used very successfully.

“If a patient has a small divot in their nose or conversely, a bump, a dermal filler can often be injected successfully, smoothing the nose,” he said. “But it is important to choose a physician, preferably one who is board-certified, who has received proper training and has considerable experience injecting the nasal area.”

Dr. Hagberg owns Skin Rejuvenation Clinic with his wife, Elizabeth Hagberg, MD, who also administers treatments at the clinic. Dr. Mark is board-certified and has trained with many of the top plastic surgeons and cosmetic dermatologists in the country. He also trains physicians, physician assistants, and nurses on various anti-aging laser and injectable procedures.
