“It was an honor to have been featured in Northern Virginia Magazine in such an extensive way” said Vargas. He added, “Their willingness to highlight my involvement on this important commission and in the community is a testament to their interest in supporting volunteerism which is something I advise my clients to consider as part of their well-rounded marketing and public relations efforts. Community service and corporate responsibility are part of a long standing tradition in American business and serve to ensure we all play a part in making better communities and a better nation”.
The National Museum of the American Latino Commission is a 23-member bi-partisan panel put in place through a legislative action by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Bush. Congressional leaders from both Parties appointed the members along with those designated by both Presidents Bush and Obama. The Commission is tasked with developing a report to be presented to Congress analyzing the feasibility of the creation of a National Museum of the American Latino, studying potential sites, possible content/programs, fund-raising plans, impact to local/regional museums and proposed enabling legislation. As part of the study, the Commission will gather input from the public through public forums to be held in various cities throughout the country. Mr. Vargas is the Vice Chair of the public engagement committee of the Commission.
Mr. Vargas has also been involved in a variety of other community-related efforts to include service as the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, active roles in local, state and national politics, membership on boards of non-profit organizations, support for other business and community groups and as a guest speaker in local schools to encourage young people to stay in school and work hard to achieve success. He is a regular commentator on national television news programs on topics ranging from politics to international affairs to business and much more and is often called upon to provide insight into the Hispanic community in the United States.
