March 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Highland Heights, OH: Pups on the east side of C-town can’t wait to get ruffin’ and rollin’ when the doors to the play yards open at Cleveland’s newest Camp Bow Wow at 31 Alpha Park in Highland Heights. When it opens on Friday, March 26th, Cleveland’s puppy parents can go to work, run errands, take a mid-winter vacation in the sun or catch LeBron and the Cavaliers play ball, with the confidence that their favorite hounds are being well cared for by Amy Ryan and her well-trained team of Camp Counselors® at the city’s newest Premier Doggy Day and Overnight Camp. At Camp Bow Wow, all campers, pedigreed pups and motley mutts alike, are encouraged to romp and play all day.

Conveniently located near interstate I-271 in the Mayfield Industrial Park, Ryan designed her state-of-the art digs for dogs with amenities guaranteed to keep tails waggin’ and pups playing. The 8,100 square- foot Camp has three large, climate-controlled indoor play areas with adjoining outside yards giving campers the ability to roam inside or out at will. Outside, the play yards are equipment with doggy play bridges. Inside in the play areas they’ll find plenty to keep them busy, or a spot to curl up and nap.

“Camp Bow Wow’s all-day open play format provides a fun, healthy environment for all of our Campers,” commented Ryan, top dog and owner of Camp Bow Wow Highland Heights. “It empowers them to make decisions for themselves: whether to play or to rest; whether to go outside or stay in. They’re social animals that love to interact with people and other dogs and are much happier in this environment than being kept in a crate all day, allowed out only for intermittent walks.”

“Our first priority is always the safety of every pup entrusted to our care,” continued Ryan. “That’s why we ask all Campers to attend a complimentary Interview Day before they can come to Camp on a regular basis. Every dog is a unique individual with unique needs. Most are really excited about the experience, while others are more timid or a bit stressed about joining the packs in the play yards. The Interview Day allows us to observe how each pup reacts to the Camp environment, while giving each dog the opportunity to get to know the Counselors and other Campers at his/her own pace.” Pups are assigned to play groups by their size, temperament and activity level.

Interested puppy parents can look in on the escapades in Camp Bow Wow’s play yards by logging on to the Camp’s website to view the real-time footage broadcast by the many Camper Cams® mounted throughout the facility. The Camp will also have a separate Tea Cup play yard with its own outdoor area within the Small Dog play yard, specifically designed for pint-sized, purse pups. Pups are greeted in the log cabin-style lobby before entering the play yards. Grooming services are available on the premises. Camp Bow Wow Highland Heights plans to foster homeless pups and help to place them with loving families.

After a full day of play, day campers head home for the evening tired, happy and ready to relax. Overnight campers retire to one of the Camp’s 44 spacious, private, climate-controlled cabins for dinner and a rest. All cabins, furnished with comfy cots and soft fleece blankets are large enough to accommodate two or three pups from the same family if their guardian would like them to stay together. The pups also enjoy a special Campfire Treat before bedtime. Camp Bow Wow’s fees are all inclusive: overnight rates include all day play.

All campers at Camp Bow Wow are supervised by a staff of Certified Camp Counselors® trained in pet CPR, first aid, dog behavior, group play dynamics, safety and health management, and of course, cleaning procedures. There is at least 1 Counselor for every 15 campers during play times.

To further help ensure the safety and security of all campers, new arrivals are required to participate in a complimentary interview day before they can attend camp on a regular basis. Canine campers must be on flea and tick preventative; at least four-months old; spayed or neutered if six months or older; up-to-date on their Rabies and Distemper vaccinations; have had a Bordetalla (Canine Cough) vaccination within the last six months; and be in general good health.

A former Wall Street retail analyst, Ryan has always loved animals. When her job brought her back to the Cleveland area, her family had lived in Chagrin Falls for several years when she was a child, she decided to make that her home.  “As an analyst for the retail sector, I knew that the pet services industry was underserved in the Cleveland area. The time was right for me to retire from the corporate world and go out on my own.  I chose to open a Camp Bow Wow because I find working with pups and their families much more fulfilling than crunching numbers.” Ryan has four Cavalier King Charles Spaniels of her own, who will attend Camp daily.
